Turkish Bath (Hammam)

What is a Turkish bath?

A Turkish bath, or hammam, is a centuries-old bathing ritual. You relax in a warm marble room, your skin is deeply cleansed with a kese scrub, and you are washed in soft, bubbly foam. It leaves you feeling clean, light and deeply relaxed. Learn more on our Turkish Bath page.

What happens during a hammam ritual?

First you warm up and let your pores open. Then your attendant exfoliates your skin with a traditional kese mitt, followed by a relaxing foam wash and a warm water rinse. Some rituals also include steam, sauna or a massage.

I have never had a Turkish bath. What should I expect?

Don't worry, our team will guide you through every step. The experience is relaxing and respectful, and you can always ask your attendant to adjust the scrub or water temperature to your comfort.

What is the difference between the Ottoman Sultan and Royal Moroccan hammam?

The Ottoman Sultan Hammam is our complete Turkish ritual with steam, sauna, kese, foam and a relaxing massage. The Royal Moroccan Hammam Experience follows Moroccan tradition with black soap, kessa exfoliation, a rhassoul clay mask and argan oil.

What is the difference between the steam room and the sauna?

The steam room uses moist heat at a lower temperature, while the sauna uses dry heat at a higher temperature. Both relax the body and prepare your skin for the hammam ritual.

Massage Treatments

Which massage should I choose?

For pure relaxation, try a Swedish or Aromatherapy Massage. For tight, sore muscles, a Deep Tissue Massage is ideal. If you would like deep warmth, choose a Hot Stone Massage. Not sure? Tell us how you feel and we will recommend the right one.

What is the difference between Swedish and Deep Tissue massage?

Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes with light to medium pressure to relax the whole body. Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure to reach deeper muscle layers and release stubborn tension.

Can I choose the massage pressure?

Absolutely. Your therapist will ask about your preferred pressure before starting, and you can ask for it to be lighter or firmer at any time during your massage.

What is the difference between Traditional Thai and Thai Massage?

Traditional Thai Massage is done fully clothed, using stretching and acupressure without oil. Our Thai Massage combines Thai techniques with warm oil for a softer, more relaxing experience.

Do you offer massages for couples?

Yes. Our Couples Massage lets you relax side by side in a private room, and our Couples Spa Ritual combines a hammam and massage for two.

Your Visit

Where are you located?

We are in Cemberlitas, Fatih, in the heart of Istanbul's historic peninsula. You can find the map and directions on our Contact page.

What should I bring?

Just bring yourself. We provide the essentials for your treatment, including a peştemal, the traditional Turkish cotton towel. We recommend leaving valuables at your hotel.

What do I wear in the Turkish bath?

Most guests wear a peştemal wrapped around the body, with underwear or swimwear underneath if they prefer. Your privacy and comfort are always respected.

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive about 10 to 15 minutes before your appointment. This gives you time to change, settle in and start your treatment relaxed.

Can I eat before my treatment?

A light meal is fine, but we recommend avoiding heavy meals and alcohol for at least an hour before your hammam or massage. Drink plenty of water before and after your visit.

Are your massage rooms private?

Yes. Every massage takes place in a calm, private room with soft lighting and gentle music. See our Massage Rooms page for more.

Health & Safety

Can I have a massage or hammam while pregnant?

Please tell us if you are pregnant when booking. Heat treatments such as the hammam, sauna and steam room are not recommended during pregnancy, and some massages may not be suitable. We advise checking with your doctor first.

Who should avoid heat treatments?

Guests with heart conditions, high or low blood pressure, breathing difficulties or other medical concerns should consult a doctor before using the hammam, sauna or steam room.

Should I tell my therapist about injuries or allergies?

Yes, please. Let us know about any injuries, recent surgery, skin conditions or allergies, such as to oils or nuts, so we can adapt your treatment safely.

How do you keep the spa clean?

Hygiene is a top priority. Treatment rooms are cleaned and prepared after every guest, and fresh towels and linens are used for each treatment.

Is there a minimum age?

Our treatments are designed for adults. If you would like to book for a younger guest, please contact us first and we will advise you.
